So I just finished watching Boxtrolls for the first time.

The bit in the credits with Mr Pickles talking about “what if there are invisible giants controlling our every movement” is pure gold meta joke material. Plus Winnie’s obsession with gore is great for a girl with curly pigtails who wears frilly dresses and I love it so much.

The lack of any romantic sub plot was refreshing as well. Now that I think about it Laika hasn’t had any significant romance in their movies, which explains why I love them so much. Their movies are more about family than anything else and it is just so great and wonderful.

I fucking love Laika movies.

Inktober #6 Boxtrolls

Coraline: The Bedlam has killed children and she kidnapped Coraline’s parents but Coraline saved everyone in the end, so everything’s fine.

Paranorman: There’s a zombie apocalypse and an innocent girl got hanged but no one from the main gang of kids died, so everything’s fine.

The Boxtrolls: Several members of an intelligent species and a man were captured and enslaved against their will for over a decade but they were freed in the end, so everything’s fine.

Kubo and the Two Strings: A family feud leads to the deaths of everyone on both sides (plus the casualties of an entire army and half a village) save for Kubo and his grandfather. Nothing is fine, but the power of forgiveness is stronger.
