ok so like I've thought about it and I feel like this is worse than dashcon stuff because dashcon obviously was a shitshow but it wasn't funded and organized by a massive media company owned and operated by Amazon like this is a multi million dollar cooperation and they couldn't put on a safe and functional event
Adriana Chechik isn’t the only person to be injured, either. LochVaness ended up dislocating her knee from what should have been a minor fall off of the platform they used, and Twitch is making it clear that people shouldn’t be allowed to sue because everyone was forced to sign a waiver before entering the pit. (Ref below)
Obviously waivers don’t protect against severe negligence on the part of the con. They created a foam pit, padded it three cubes deep (cubes that instantly compress and provide practically no cushioning mind you), and then put ZERO padding on the bottom of the pit so that when attendees fell in they landed on rock hard concrete from several feet up. You can see the video where Adriana broke her back in the pit (while Twitch employees assure the crowd she’s fine) here. Add to this that the point of the game in question being played is to *knock attendees off their platform and into the pit.* Dashcon was awkward and unfortunate, but there’s LITERALLY no way to compare the two that doesn’t trivialize how bad this is.
Twitch is trying REALLY hard to intimidate people into silence and using these waivers they force everyone to sign as a way to prevent attendees from suing, but waivers only work if an individual is fully informed of the situation they’re walking in to. Adriana, who now has a whole ass rod in her back and a lifelong injury from a single event, is currently working with other twitch names to gather all attendees who have suffered painful injuries due to twitch’s negligence in order to sue, and I hope this gets twitch the massive negative press it rightfully deserves
