dear parents, ESPECIALLY PARENTS OF AUTISTIC KIDS,
if your kid tells you that they are being bullied, never EVER say that it is even partially their fault. that is what my mother did when i was being bullied in primary/elementary school. according to her, it was “also kind of my fault for not getting jokes and crying too much”.
later, she apologised and said that she knows it’s not my fault, but STILL said i might get bullied more if i “didn’t stop the crying”. now let me say, that’s mean. that’s a horrible thing for you child to hear. however the child behaves, bullying can never be a victim’s fault.
don’t be another bully to your own neurodivergent child. respect them and never imply or tell them that their suffering is of their own doing. autistic traits are not something we can control.
