I want to bring attention to a fact that I believe not enough people, allistics especially, seem to know about. The creator of the world wide phenomenon known as Pokemon, Satoshi Tajiri, is autistic. As a child his biggest special interest was in bugs and bug collecting which is where he got his inspiration for Pokemon. He has said before that he wanted the Pokemon games to give people the same joy that collecting bugs as a child did for him.

This is a disabled parking space, unless you are disabled DON’T PARK HERE. You want to know why they are so close to the door or the shop/hospital (wherever you are) it’s because not everyone who is disabled has a wheelchair/needs a wheelchair. You want to know why else you shouldn’t…
Report anyone you see parked in a disabled spot not displaying a valid pass- especially if you actually see the car owner and they have no mobility issues. The passes aren’t free. I have to get a medical form filled out by a doctor AND pay for the parking pass. I’m not sure about elsewhere but where I live parking even for a minute in an accessible spot without a valid permit is an automatic $150 fine which goes to $300 if not paid in 14 days. Snap a pic discretely that shows the car’s plates, lack of pass and that it’s a signed and marked spot and submit it to parking enforcement. Don’t let people get away with this. It means I may have to park far away and wrestle my manual chair over speed bumps meant for cars which is NOT FUN. Get these entitled jerks ticketed. Only way they learn.

I feel like it’s important to add that just because someone isn’t actually in a wheelchair or doesn’t look disabled it doesn’t mean they aren’t.
Last year my mum had a pass thing (it wasn’t actually a disabled badge but it said she could use the spot) as she was under going medical treatment for her cancer. She could only just manage to walk 5 minutes at times but she looked completely healthy. Someone started to yell abuse at her because of her using the space.

I’m an Ileostomate. I’m allowed to have this pass, but I chose not to. STILL, I have no mobility issues but it is possible for me to have vertigo from malnutrition, dehydration, and sometimes I could use it for just bathroom emergencies.
Why don’t I use this tag, even if I don’t need it 100% of the time? Because an angry veteran in a wheelchair decided to harass me when I did have one. My bag was new and was VERY full, on the verge of bursting, and this guy has the nerve to block the entrance with his wheelchair and refuse to move. It wasn’t until I legit unbuttoned my pants and flashed him my bag that he fucking moved.

Also this boils down to stripping rights away from intersex and trans ppl from what I understand, meaning that we would no longer be protected under federal law. This is scary. call your local senator and representatives! websites like 5calls tell you your national representatives based on your location and if you use their mobile site, you can call those representatives through their site. they don’t yet have hb2796 on their site, but you can use their system regardless!

I strongly oppose house bill 2796, which aims to remove gender identity protections from civil rights legislation by forcibly clarifying “gender” or “sex” to indicate only a person’s assigned gender at birth.
