  • Layton is a shapeshifter: specifically, he can turn into animals that he has touched before. He’s one of the few shapeshifters who is able to keep his wits and human conscience while an animal. However, it’s very taxing to do so, so he doesn’t shift often, if at all.
  • Luke has empathy and weak telepathy. His telepathy only works on animals: that’s why he can really speak to them. When it comes to humans, he can only pick up on emotions (love, anger, jealousy, etc.) with his empathy. The stronger the emotion, the clearer he sees it.
  • Flora is a witch, that meaning she has no innate powers, just a vague magic which she can use to craft potions, talismans, and the like. Her magic can also be channelled through specific wands. She’s awful at brewing and usually just sticks to talismans.
  • Emmy has, and just hear me out on this, aeromancy. Which sounds lame, but just imagine: using aeromancy to jump higher, punch harder, and kick faster. Using aeromancy to push the enemies around or hold them in place. Using aeromancy to mess with the scenery to get the perfect shot with her camera. Emmy using aeromancy.
  • Descole is also a shapeshifter, but, instead of being able to turn into animals, he can turn into a perfect replica of any person he touches. It isn’t able to mimic their mannerisms, though, so he still has to study them closely to be able to pull it off.
  • Don Paolo’s powers have nothing to do with shapeshifting; he’s just that good at disguises naturally. In fact, his power has to do with machinery. He’s able to immediately tell what a machine is and how it works simply by touching it, as well as building machines effortlessly by “speaking” to the materials.
  • Grosky has super-strength. Aurora is a magic golem. Anton is actually a vampire. Janice is a siren. Claire can skip ahead and view the future. Dimitri can travel back in time. Clive is a human lie-detector.

You know what I find really interesting??
How Clive acts around Layton once he reveals his true identity.
He right out starts provoking him, it literally seems like he wants to make Layton hate him. First, he kidnaps his daughter right in front of his eyes.
Though literally challenging Layton to enter his fortress (the door with the puzzle lock is awfully unsafe considering Layton’s skills. Also, hell, Clive literally told his staff to let them pass), he acts as if he doesn’t want him to be around. He even yells at him at some point, before endangering him and the two kids (puzzle “the last tile“) with no real reason???? and then vanishing into the ground. It continues, though, with the unnessecary announcement that “this will be your last chance [to see London (if you don’t stop me)]“. He also shows them the damage he does, giving Layton even more reasons to hate/stop him.
The fact that there are even monitors in the generator room (the weakest point of the fortress) is, at least to me, another hint that Clive had intentions/hoped to be stopped.
I mean, he literally tells them all they have to know, though he makes it sound like a warning (“this whole fortress will detonate!“), while intentionally dropping a few more insults (“I know that you like to play the hero“).
He acts as if he’s holding a sign with the words “hate me!“ written on it just to make sure Layton will stop him no matter what
Yo those are my thoughts haha
