god I am In Distress about the realization Franziska on Karma had a grudge against Lotta Hart since before their first appearance together in Reunion And Turnabout
evidence:
1) Franziska does not normally whip women. her whip has a big huge gender bias (that delights me to no end even though its kinda terrible) (much like everything about this girl really)
2) Franziska knows how to be patient with witnesses fucking around and direct them gently to the point (see: both Trilo and Moe in Turnabout Big Top like jfc this girl has the patience of a fucking saint when she’s trying to) (That One Time Everyone In The Courtroom Wished They Had A Whip)
3) and yet, when Lotta shows up on the stand
von Karma: Witness. Your name and occupation, if you please. Lotta: Hey, Phoenix! How ya doin’? Phoenix: Just fine… Lotta: Sorry ‘bout this. Didn’t exactly have a choice, ya know…? Yeowza! von Karma: Name and occupation. Lotta: I-I declare! What in tarnation!? Hey, Judge! This here is violence against my fair self! Judge: That’s fine. Lotta: “That’s fine!?” That ain’t fine!! That’s a whip! Eaaah! von Karma: There’s no need for foolish outcries from foolishly foolish fools. Just hurry up and testify about what happened on the day of the murder. Lotta: I haven’t even gotten to say my name and job yet… von Karma: … Lotta: The name’s Lotta Hart, paranormal photographer, and I’m here to testify! Judge: Now, now, let’s all be one big happy family… OK…?
FRANZISKA IS NOT DOWN TO BE ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY
4) in Investigations 2, Lotta shows up as Explicitly Very Helpful she had literally been investigating the same thing as Franziska and has a FUCKTON of information to share (which, granted, Miles kinda had to coerce out of her, but that part is already done by the time Fran shows up) her photos have been invaluable to EVERY investigation she was a part of, although they do have a tendency to destroy the prosecution’s case XD
and yet, Franziska’s reaction to her has nothing to do with her photos
the only time Lotta testified for Franziska was in Reunion, and that time the only flaw Phoenix was able to find in her testimony was the disrepancy in the number of photos, and that was at Franziska’s own request
(like, if you want to paint Franziska as petty for Lotta’s photos destroying her case, be my guest (though you’d be wrong and I can prove it), BUT PHOTOS ARE NOT WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT THERE)
Lotta also is a part of Franziska’s investigation in Farewell, but the only useful bit of information she has to share is that her camera and notes were stolen, and that’s, well, true she does not give any testimony at all, personally
there was ONE TIME Lotta gave testimony that was faulty
a) someone who keeps grudges against people for destroying their cases, bitter about losing their perfect record
b) someone who is deeply grateful to Phoenix Wright for saving their brother but never managed to come out and say it because they’re an emotionally constipated dumbass (I say that lovingly)
