  • the friendship starts because Simon hears Klavier calling Apollo “Herr Forehead” and thinks it’s the peak of all insults
  • Meanwhile Klavier almost immediately dubs Simon “Herr Samurai” and Simon, in turn, exclusively refers to Klavier as “Maestro”
  • (I mean we’re talking about the guy who calls Hugh O’Conner “Golden Boy” after finding out Hugh’s secret – he’s gonna poke fun at Klavier’s abandoned career in his way)
  • They don’t even realize for a while that they’re each connected to the precipitation of the so-called “dark age of the law,” and when they DO realize it, that’s when they pretty much know they’re at the least long-term pals, and more likely best friends in the making
  • Simon appreciates Klavier for always being so direct. Klavier appreciates Simon for never expecting more (emotionally) than Klavier can comfortably give. It’s an unorthodox recipe for a wonderfully supportive arrangement.
  • AND YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE THEY HAVE IN COMMON?? THAT’S RIGHT! they each personally cared about at least One (1) Murderer
  • Simon spending the day with Klavier on what used to be important anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Klavier only just staying sane thanks to Simon. Klavier doing the same for Simon, even though there are much fewer such dates.
  • Simon, having studied psychology at length, believes he needs a Gestalt roleplay – he needs to talk to someone playing as the Phantom to work through everything for himself. Klavier is the only person willing to do that.
  • Klavier doesn’t really understand the Phantom, but in the Gestalt roleplay he focuses on what concept the Phantom might have of loyalty. It’s one thing Klavier does understand and he especially has it on his mind while he’s helping Simon work through his shit.
  • SIMON AND KLAVIER HELPING EACH OTHER ON INVESTIGATIONS
  • They’re each annoyed by totally different aspects of investigation, so they’ll be the perfect team – they can concentrate and be observant in complementary terms.
  • Klavier phones up Simon: “Herr Samurai, I need help prosecuting this murder.” “I’ve had enough of those for the week, Maestro.” “Apollo Justice will be defending.” “…I’ll be there posthaste.”
