…I had to put this up because that’s just… it touches my heart. There’s this kid who acts tough but loves his family so much. And he’s probably just thinking of the flowers in remembrance, but… there’s also two other people, two women in his life, who have cared for him and loved him as well.

And Justine! Goodness that woman. In saying these things, she’s reiterating how she’s now realising she can be both a Judge and a caring mother and not sacrifice one or the other, and finally she can lay down her worries and anxieties over the past to rest. She and her son can bond over these things, rather than let them become a gaping chasm of the unknown between them.

Also on Justine, I fully appreciate how she’s shown as a working woman, a mother and Judge, and a good one. She’s good at both, and that’s able to be seen easily by just looking at John, who has an attitude problem but also has  firm sense of right and wrong, and is able to come to decisions on his path on his own.

And she isn’t looked down on for her behaviour in court when she had something held over her - in fact, it’s not seen as ‘emotional weakness’, even. It’s something that has Miles thinking of how he would feel, and I can’t remember if it’s brought up explicitly, but it’s very much like what happened to Phoenix, and Phoenix was even more emotional. And they both had to learnt that it’s okay to have help, and rely on others.
