yuri isnt the same as yaoi though. yaoi was started by straight women to fetishize gay men, whereas yuri was created by wlw in japan to portray loving and healthy relationships between women. they arent the same concepts and although im sure there is fetishization of wlw in japan, yuri isnt meant to be that, and the origin of it is different than yaoi. yaoi is an acronym for a japanese phrase that denotes no romantic meaning/feeling, because it’s all fanservice written by women for women, about mlm. yuri, however, literally means “lily,” and it’s about women’s relationships in a way that’s meant to appeal to wlw
