OKAY SO I’M WRITING THIS RANLAY FIC FOR CROFTY RIGHT.
AND I HAD AN IDEA FOR A DIFFERENT INTERPRETATION OF MM.
So basically, we all know basically from the start who MG is. We’re used to the Professor Layton twists and turns enough by then to know they’ll play it off like that.
However!
No one, not even Layton, is clever enough to see that in his actual life. He would not believe for a second that someone he knew to be dead for 18 years would actually be alive. That’s ridiculous, when you take into account how he fell, how he was never found.
Unless…
What if Layton heard something? All those years ago when he lost Randall? What if he heard a splash, or a shout of pain…?
What if he passed it off as his own hope?
What if he told no one, but that sound he could have heard…
What if that sound haunted him ever since that day?
So when he travelled to Monte d'Or, when he heard the rumours and began to put together the puzzle…
He remembered that sound again.
