Neither. I heavily regret writing that stupid list when I was younger because everyone seems to think it’s canon now. I had no real thought in mind, I was just like “hm let’s assign everyone an age that seems right”. By no means is it correct. I do not headcanon it and I do not agree with it.
A question about drawing eyes in a simplistic cartoon style. In realism it seems that the pupil is always touching an eyelid unless you want a surprised facial expression. Yet a lot of cartoon characters are drawn as wide-eye'd as possible with the pupil rarely touching the lids, and they don't look surprised unless intended to be. I can't figure out how to draw big cartoon eyes like this without them looking terrified. What trick am I missing?
Excellent question! I’ve struggled with this as well! Here are some tips that I’ve picked up along the way:
One thing I will say is avoid having both top and bottom lash lines meet too heavily. Unless it’s a style such as Gravity Falls or The Simpsons where the eyeballs are literal spheres set in the face, I like to use an oblong eye shape with the corners of the eyes not fully defined to avoid that “raccoon/L from Death Note” sort of look.
