“Emuparadise deserved to be shut down because using emulators is wrong”
Fuck you. You have no idea how important ROM sites and emulators are.
It’s because of emulators that people can dissect games and extract assets from them. Without emulators we wouldn’t have access to the sprites, music, sound effects, soundfonts, and models from millions of games. We wouldn’t have sites like The Cutting Room Floor, which document unused content from games that can ONLY be seen by digging through the game’s files. Those unused Pokemon designs that everyone was fawning over last month? If it weren’t for emulators, we wouldn’t have had any way of finding them and putting them on the internet for all to see.
And let’s not forget romhacking! There are thousands upon thousands of romhacking communities on the internet, many of them still active to this day! Numerous indie game developers and designers got their start by making romhacks! The highest rated Sonic game in the past 20 years was made by members of a romhacking community!
And I don’t even need to mention fan translations for games that were never released in English. Mother 3, Ace Attorney Investigations 2, Tingle’s Balloon Trip, Mario Artist, etc, none of those games were ever released in English-speaking countries, and they likely never will be! Without emulators, the only way for English-speaking players to enjoy these games is to import them and learn to speak Japanese! And Japanese isn’t an easy language to learn!
Video game culture wouldn’t be anywhere close to as big as it is if it weren’t for emulators. Yes, they’re illegal, but in many cases, they’re all we have. So if you believe that Emuparadise shutting down will be beneficial in any way, you can fuck right off.
