Car and home insurance are together and only $100? It’d cost me $120 just to insure my beater van (which I’ve had to sell).

The rich ought to remember that starved dogs eat their masters.

my apartment is tiny and costs over $1,000/month. utilites and parking are not included. this is considered CHEAP for the city.

not only did these jokers forget that their employees need to fucking eat and not freeze, but they also neglected to remember that those cars their employees are insuring need gas to run.

pretty much all people have additional expenses to pay for each month, such as:

  • dental insurance
  • utilities that aren’t included in rent
  • air conditioning
  • medication
  • disability aids and care
  • education, school supplies, and student loans
  • day care and general child care—diapers, formula, etc.
  • toiletries
  • clothing
  • public transportation
  • tolls
  • parking
  • home goods
  • therapy
  • internet (this is NOT a luxury. not having internet = not having a job for MANY people)
  • taxes

and these are predictable expenses. here are some absurdly expensive things that you can’t predict:

  • a medical emergency, be it an illness or an accident
  • a car accident or malfunction
  • a death
  • something breaking in your home, like your water main or fridge
  • legal issues like divorces, custody disputes, tickets, etc.
  • disasters that destroy your home, car, possessions, etc.
  • a robbery

not to mention the cost of things like childbirth, which alone bankrupts people, and emergency situations where people have to, for example, flee their abusers.

and even with all of that considered, even if all of these needs are met and employees NEVER miss a day of work and work multiple jobs insteading ever seeing their friends and families, what’s missing that people should NOT live without?

recreation.

i get that the filthy rich don’t think poor people have a right to have fun and find joy in their lives, but those people are demons.

humans cannot lead full lives without happiness—constant stress and depression literally shorten life spans—nor should they. we do not exist to bring in profits. working yourself to the bone to barely scrape by should be no one’s reality.

everyone should be able to take time off and engage with things that make them happy and allow them to express themselves. they should be able to go to the movies, celebrate birthdays, play sports, have hobbies, leave town, etc. children should have toys. people should have time to spend with their loved ones. money should never be so tight that people live in constant fear.

i’m sorry that this turned into a rant but the notion that people just don’t know how to budget fucking infuriates me when there is concrete proof minimum wage cannot sustain people.
