Seeing ppl dare to complain that the part where Steven dances with himself just “goes to show” the crew has always been too lazy to put in effort and it’s just blowing my mind

First of all, they hired James-fucking-Baxter for that part. There is a reason this man is hired for shit like this. He is literally the only person insane enough, only person Good Enough, to make shit like this

His method of animation is also unbelievably expensive. There’s a reason his recent work have been primarily short segments in animated television versus big movie productions. Not that he doesn’t have any projects going on- he probably does, but he works for DreamWorks, so it’s either in their movies, and not a lot of full on 2d animation anymore.

His own animation studio also closed down, because of course 2d’s popularity went down for a while, and also the fact that it’s, once again, expensive.

My point here is that animation like that is a splurge, a treat for the audience, used for important scenes. It’s too costly to do for everything, and not everyone can actually do it (at least, not with the effeciency of an animation master). You can’t expect master level work all the fucking time.
