Proof that Randall is Level 5′s baby:
- They let Yuri Lowthenal voice him (Even the kid version, why?) to attract the Clive fans.
- Randall is Layton’s raison d'être
- By that, I mean he was the original puzzle and archaeology fanatic
- Layton went on to study puzzles and archaeology in his memory
- Regardless of that, Randall survived. Level 5 actually let a character survive at the end of their game. Claire, Layton’s girlfriend, didn’t even get that privilege.
- Randall, like Claire, had a major impact in shaping who Layton is.
- Teenage Randall is a better fencer than Layton. (”I win again, Hershel!”)
- The Azran might have received a mention in PL4 (I think?) but Randall was the first person we see who really studied them.
- Randall fills so many of the character tropes Level 5 loves. (By tropes, I don’t mean something bad. We get to see him in lots of different lights.) Presumed dead only to come back to life? Cute ginger with glasses? Friend-turned-villain? Love triangle? Betrayal? Memory problems? Daddy issues? Misunderstanding? Staple in our hero’s tragic backstory? Pawn for the true villain? Randall’s got it all.
- We see him at three different stages in his life- kid, teen and adult. We didn’t see kid Layton until the last game.
- I swear, he has more lines in one game than Flora does in an entire trilogy.
- Despite being a pawn in Descole’s plan…. Randall still did some bad stuff and got off scot-free, apparently.
- (And yes, I know now he didn’t really kidnap Angela but he still went and kidnapped Luke and hung him from a high wire and taunted Layton.)
- “Welcome home, Randall. You poor cinnamon roll- you’ve been through so much! Here’s a city and a hot wife for your troubles.”
- Nope. No matter how cute the credit pictures are, I refuse to believe Angela forgave him just like that. This is the woman who blamed Hershel for her boyfriend’s death and waited 18 years to apologise.
- Descole is Level 5′s sinnamon roll, so he’s the only one at fault here.
- Randall’s villain name is the ‘Masked Gentleman’. His outfit is like a white version of Layton’s outfit, even with the top hat. (Which is cool and matches the theme of the twin masks.)
- Randall can f*cking FLY. With the Masked Gentleman cape/wings. They don’t even bother explaining that one
- I’m honestly surprised and disappointed they didn’t put him in Azran Legacy. Not even a reference.
