I know I’m not the only one who noticed ZIM’s like….whole Thing during the movie.

People are saying that he didn’t get as much character development. But, I think we’re missing that in order for ZIM to have realized even for a few minutes that the Tallest REALLY weren’t anywhere near him, not coming….that maybe his entire reason for existing isn’t going to come to fruition? That’s a whole big wall of denial he had to break through. And ZIM’s whole character kinda hinges on that denial. He’s so good at lying to himself. Like….amazingly good. Like that’s literally how he’s kept going for probably his whole life???

And I’d argue that even when it seemed that he had pulled himself back together for another evil scheme that might mean he reached his goal…he still seemed OFF.

He was super reckless. Like he always is, of course. But, he’s also famous for his survival instincts. He always gets out of situations where he might actually die, one way or another. Here though, he was pretty positive that the Earth was gonna be no more. Whether via the Armada blowing it up or the Florpus hole.

And never ONCE did he really consider leaving.

I remember in the episode ‘ The Girl Who Cried Gnome’ ZIM believed that the earth was going to be shaken apart and he was like ‘welp time to leave’, started packing up the voot.

ZIM here just….kinda was like well, if these are my last moments then I’m going to have a giant throne that shoots flames and show the humans my true face. He never gets in his voot to try and meet up with the Armada. He stares up at the sky and waits for them to get there, knowing it means his own death.

Like when they enter the Florpus (lol) and ZIM knows it could mean death and he’s just like ‘ZIM has won!’ as if that’s all that matters in the end.

So, yeah. It seemed kinda like a last ditch, desperate and potentially suicidal attempt at completing his mission. To me at least.  Probably over thinking things but hey it’s fun.
