- luz is actually, a straight A student. her teachers look at her with scorn when handing back yet another test and that wonderful little 100 is branded on the top in red ink. other students get a smiley face by theirs. luz does not. because these teachers are angered that a student they consider to be disruptive, distractable, impulsive, and inefficient can prove to be intelligent beyond their comprehension
- at hexside schools it’s definitely better. the content is more engaging so she finds it easier to maintain focus and not turn to excessive means for stimulation. her learning methods also translate MUCH better to magical learning, projects are less read memorize repeat and more focused on engaging students so that they learn through more kinesthetic means
- luz can spend 5 hours consecutively drawing glyphs to the point where her back is immensely uncomfortable but she’s so into it she doesn’t really notice. however it takes her 3 hours to complete what should be a 15 min on paper assignment. often times she gets eda to do them for her while she focuses on the more meaningful assignments that will actually help her learn. eda is happy to do them because she refuses to make her child engage in pointless busywork
- luz stims a LOT. in class when the teacher starts talking abt something she’s really, really into her face will kinda go blank and her hands will begin tapping incessantly on the table. teachers often mistake this for her being unable to focus and are often surprised that, when asked, she can repeat the concept with perfect understanding
- to kind of go off of that, another reason human teachers found luz annoying was because she was kinda TOO into school. she always went big with projects, wanted to talk more and more about the subjects that interested her, and often times proved to know more than the teacher based on taking her own time to study the subject
- luz is definitely hyperfixated on azura- and uses it to relate to anything she does so she has a reference that will keep her interested
- as far as subjects that DONT interest her go- luz is dead in the water. she found u.s. history so boring that she couldnt get through the entire class without desperately trying to find something else to focus on. and she could barely complete any of the assignments by the allocated due date, her brain simply would not allow her to focus on anything that didn’t interest her
- gus and willow have developed a system with her to help her focus. she made sure she shared her classes with at least one of them and if not, at least amity, who isn’t quite as good at helping her focus as they are but still grounded her a lot. they’ve been briefed on the signs of seeing luz get anxious, or overwhelmed by a lack of stimulation, and know to touch her and breathe with her until she calms down. amity only isnt good at this cos she cant touch luz without going red
- luz’s sleep schedule is EVERYWHERE. sometimes she gets so into drawing her glyphs that she doesnt sleep at all, leading to eda demanding that she stay home that day
- luz definitely has rsd. that’s why when amity snaps at her luz immediately backs off. she’s used to receiving scathing remarks from her peers and is easily hurt by something as simple as “go away”
