It’s almost like teachers barely make a living wage and actual minimum wage workers don’t make a living wage at all.
Keep in mind that raising minimum wage will ultimately force your employer to pay you more competitively--whether or not you are a minimum wage worker.
This is why conservatives are so scared of minimum wage workers making a living wage (which, to be clear, $15/hour is not)--it would force all employers to start paying employees a more reasonable fraction of their value. Trickle-down economics is a sick joke, but trickle-up economics is real.
Raise the standard for the lowest paid workers, and THE STANDARD GETS RAISED FOR EVERYONE.
Whether you make $30k or $100k a year, you are making pennies on the dollar of what you are actually earning your employer. Never forget that.
IF YOU MAKE THE FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE
YOU ARE EARNING ABOUT 16K A YEAR
WHICH IS UNDER THE POVERTY LEVEL
AND SOME LIKE TIPPED WORKERS AND THE DISABLED ARE MAKING 2$ OR LESS AN HOUR
AND LETS NOT FORGET THOSE IN PRISON WHO ARE AT TIMES FORCED TO WORK, AND YOU SHOULD GIVE A DAMN BECAUSE YOU ARE COMPETING WITH THEM FOR JOBS
WHICH MEANS WE THE TAXPAYERS ARE SUBSIDIZING CORPORATIONS TO UNDERPAY WORKERS BECAUSE WE ARE (SOMETIMES) FILLING IN THE GAPS WITH FOOD AID
