I know reducing stigma around periods is important, but also i kept being told my periods were normal and natural and "feminine" or whatever, so i desperately tried to embrace my periods even though they made me dysphoric and they caused excruciating pain and my flow was exceedingly heavy. Nobody ever told me that i could hate my period and that i could stop having it until i realized i was trans (in my 30s).

I just want people to know they don't have to have a period. Birth control can be used for cis women and trans people to stop your period (or lighten it significantly if that's what you want), so you don't even need to be on testosterone to stop it (I'm not).

So yeah, talk to a gynecologist about stopping your period today.

it’s not actually unhealthy to stop having periods; there’s some evidence that it might actually be healthier not to have them, since it’s less of a strain on your body.

a lot of the philosophy around ‘embracing’ your period is new age bullshit and not scientifically accurate at all. you don’t need it to purge toxins that would back up otherwise. you don’t need it to rebalance any hormonal system that would spin out of control otherwise. and it definitely isn’t something you always perfectly recover from: endometriosis and anemia are serious problems that hundreds of thousands of people struggle with, on top of the difficulty of managing cramps and fatigue at school and work.

don’t underestimate how damaging, unpleasant, and unnecessary your period is just because you’ve been told that this is a natural part of womanhood.  if it sucks and you hate it, get rid of it.

Also, I've heard story after story about people not realizing what they were going through during/around their periods was not biologically normal/within the healthy range.

Your bleeding should be measured in spoons, not cups. You should not be incapacitated physically, mentally, or emotionally by your period. If you are, please look into why, because you shouldn't have to endure that. And yes, this goes for cis as well as trans folks, and there are solutions for both.

Just because something is natural, doesn't mean it's healthy or good. Just because something is natural, doesn't mean that it can't have problems. Please take care of yourselves.
