I’m not asian but given the sheer amount of antiblackness in some asian media I think it’s bizarre for that anon to complain about “taking away representation.” Representation is taken away from us every time some anime chooses to make their black character a racist caricature instead of an actual human being :/

I've fixed some extremely racist designs in anime but it's extremely hard considering half of the caricatures are literally pitch black with the only colors coming from their eyes and bright red lips

You can't look at these designs and then tell me that we actually get proper representation.

The excuse that black people don't live in Asia or that most Japanese people don't see black people often is bullshit. First of fall, they can literally just search up black people. It's not hard. Second of all, they can learn.

This is how the mangaka for HxH drew Canary:

The most noticeable feature of hers is the extremely defined big lips.

Now this is how Canary is drawn in the latest issues:

Her lips are still defined but not in the same unflattering way they used to be. Why? Because the mangaka understood that his design was racist and fixed it. He understood, researched, and fixed his design the same way as he's done before.

Then there's the "make your own Characters" people. I fucking hate those assholes.

Whenever we do make characters that look like us, they immediately get ignored or whitewashed.

And even worse, the animes that change the characters designs/skin colors! Literally Bea from Pokemon got paler! They have no excuse considering they have the 2D art.

Then there's the people who go "Well they're not necessarily black!" Because the characters aren't "black enough" to them.

Anime is extremely racist and against us black and brown people. If people can't understand that then they shouldn't be talking about us making edits and "blackwashing"
