my mom woke up at 4 am this morning (jan 24) to drive to the Missouri capital cuz last night MO Republicans decided they were having a hearing for not 1 or 2 but NINE anti-trans bills at 8 am CT this morning. we are in hell. here is what is being heard today (via PROMO):
- 3 bills aiming to ban transgender girls and women from playing team sports,
- 3 bills banning gender-affirming care for transgender and gender-expansive children,
- 1 bills banning drag performances in public spaces,
- 1 bills aiming to reclassify drag shows as sexual and even pornographic in nature,
- and 1 bill banning inclusive curriculum being taught in public schools on topics like critical race theory, sexual orientation, and gender expression.
If you think this doesn’t affect you, the same bills are being proposed and shoved through state legislatures at unimaginable speeds in over half the states in the US right now.
If you’re a Missourian, you can submit written testimony against these bills for the next ONE HOUR (yes, cruelty is the point). That means submitting something before 3:30 pm American Central Time. You can do it at the MO state website HERE (click the link in the top right corner).

This had reblogs so I just wanna update it and say that the write-in comment period is now OVER, but the in-person testimonies are about so start. My mom is sending me updates + photos so I’ll let you all know what happens. There’s a whole coalition of people there to block these bills (and the Kansas City mayor showed up!). My mom says there are drag queens there “having a party in the rotunda” hehe. Makes my heart a little less heavy. We do this every legislative session.
