honestly my one favourite thing about professor layton is luke and layton's relationship like yes we all love the father/adopted son dynamic but these two guys. these guys.
luke looks up to layton so much, he wants to make him proud but layton is already proud of him and wants luke to bring out the best of himself, but still respects the fact that hes a kid and gets excited over small things (like seeing the animals in curious village or every balloon/circus thing in miracle mask) and even though hes a child layton puts so much faith in him and trusts him with very dangerous duties.
but they are more than found family they are BEST FRIENDS. layton, a man who has already lived his own childhood and half of his adult life, living so many traumatic losses throughout it willingly chooses to spend his time with this 10 to 13 year old something kid who just really looked up to him. they bonded and trust each other more than anyone in the world and have their little inside jokes and important things and they know each other more than anyone and even when luke leaves for america im sure that when theyre gonna meet again in new world of steam nothings gonna change they are going to be as close as ever
