Gentlemen

Late entry! And very short.

Characters: Katrielle, Flora, Alfendi

“What are you writing?” Flora asked Kat, intrigued, as she observed how she was trying to do some sort of list. She hadn’t interrupted her before because she assumed she was busy with a puzzle.

“I’m trying to remember all the gentlemen rules dad always mentions.” She said so serious Flora couldn’t but smile.

“I don’t remember them all either…” And she was convinced he made them up as he needed them. Oh, how mean of me to think like that. She giggled.

“What’s so funny?”

“Oh, sorry, but I can’t help you with most of them.”

“But you remember some? Help me with them! Alfendi doesn’t want to…” She looked at her brother, whose feet were over the coffee table.

“I don’t care about being a gentleman.” Flora didn’t say anything, but still looked at his feet. He sighed and put them on the ground, “Thought I respect the people I care about. Just don’t care for strangers to much. Some of the rules seem a little bit fake to me.”

Flora agreed a little, but decided not to upset Kat.

“You are still a gentleman to me!” Kat told him. He made a slightly exaggerated offended expression, and took a book from the table, “’kay, still not going to help you with the list.”

“Oh…”

“Well, what have you got until now? Read them to me, and I’ll see if I remember something” children handwriting was hard to read.

“A gentleman must always keep his promises.” She said solemnly.

Oh, well. A nice sentiment. “Well, that sounds just right.”

She kept helping her with the list, trying not to laugh when Alfendi made funny faces behind Kat when she noticed Flora knew Layton was, many times, the first one to break those so called ‘rules’, according to Kat.

“A lady must follow the same rules, right?” She asked when she was done.

“If you want to.”

“A gentleman should always help a lady in need…” She read again, “A lady should also help another lady in need? Do gentlemen don’t need help from another gentleman?” She asked confused.

“You are thinking too much… Perhaps you should call them a ‘guide’ instead of ‘rules’” She suggested.

“It’s nice to have you here, Aunt Flora!” Kat chirped, excited by the surprise visit.

“Well, I wanted to see your knew agency. I heard you are doing quite well.”

“Yes, I will tell you about the cases!”

Flora was glad to see she was doing fine, thought she worried that she might be hiding the fact she still missed her father.

And she was a little surprised how she was mean to her assistant and her dog, who they almost seemed to understand. She couldn’t help but comment her about that when she was leaving.

“Good Bye Aunt Flora. Please visit me soon.”

“I will try too. You should be kinder with your assistant, Kat. What happened with the ‘rules for gentlemen’ you once wrote so happily?”

“But he admires me; I never force him to do anything…”

Flora sighed, she was completely oblivious of how the poor boy had a crush on her, “Okay, just think a little bit more before asking him something. Sending him to watch in the graveyard for ‘zombies’, as you told me, doesn’t sound very nice.”

She made a worried expression, as if suddenly realizing it might have been too much. “Okay, I’ll try to be careful. He is my friend, after all. And I am a lady, daughter of the famous Professor Layton.”

She smiled and said goodbye once more before leaving. She was disappointed when the professor left, because he was actually doing a great job as Kat father. Now Rosa was great, and she was there too, but seeing some of Kat’s attitudes, it seems they spoiled her a little, thought she was not mean on purpose.

She hoped Layton would keep his promise, and came back with the answer to the mystery that was, supposedly, related with Kat.
