Imagine if the whole game was just investigating the Richmond fortune so they could focus on the best storyline which was the most rushed. Jay could’ve investigated the 7 dragons much briefer while focusing on case 12, and if level 5 focused more on it they could have the villain do some really sinister plot. Not just. “Mwahahaha….. I got you to sign a contract…. take that, capitalism!” They could’ve had Ernest do some really crazy things. Follow Dr stanguns lead and slowly kidnap the 7 dragons 1 by 1, holding them hostage. Kat could investigate each one as they disappeared. Steal their money and copy des and clive: make a mech! Destroy something!! That stuffs awesome!!! Idk, literally do something with SOME concequence. It doesn’t feel like the stakes are very high when it’s literally just a piece of paper. (And setriously, the dragons gave up way too easily wtf). Discard the other cases, but keep the ideas for investigations into the dragons. Cases 10 and 11 had really good concepts (but God awful endings) so have the importance of being Ernest shown in a flashback (but change it so Ernest was framed for an actual crime!!! Let’s not have the ending be literal goat shit!!! Have someone actually steal something very very valuable!) And kat could be framed for murder while investigating case 12 (AND CHANGE THE ENDING TO THAT ONE TOO LIKE WHAT THE FUCK. YOU CAN’T JUST HAVE THEM FORGIVE THE PERSON WHO FRAMED HER AND HAVE A PICNIC TOGETHER ALL FRIENDSHIP AND RAINBOWS. HAVE SOMEONE ACTUALLY GET MURDERED, AND NOT JUST BE AN ACCIDENT.) It doesn’t even have to be murder. Like. What if Ernest got worried that she was about to find him our so he frames her for something like a valuable theft to slow her down. OR MAYBE!!! Ms. Clover could be murdered. The murderer gets away. Ernest sees it as an opportunity to slow kat down and gets her framed, making it seem as if the murderer was framing her. He’d of course be very conflicted about it because of his feelings for ms. Layton, but he wants to see his goal of destroying the dragons capitalistic lives through for his mom. Sobs I adore mystery journey and the characters and the music and the concepts but. I feel like they wanted to shove so many stories in the game and they’re all rushed, some being irrelevant and their potential wasted.
Sighs I know it’s too late for any of that because the game has been out a few years but let me dream about how it could’ve been I adore villain Ernest too much and I wish he had gone much more extreme in his villainous acts

I came up with it while I was researching clusterballooning for a paper last semester.
Everything is the same except: Instead of being obsessed with archeology and ruins, Randall is obsessed with the sky and the thought of flying. Angela, Henry, Hershel, Dalston, and everyone else thinks that he’s got his head in the clouds. Then Randall gets this crazy dream to. Go flying using balloons. Like. Here i made a visual to explain
And he starts coming up with a plan to actually do it!! He annoys the others about it, pleading for their help because, “-I can make a harness that I can attach the balloons to, but they’ve gotta be! Really big balloons! And I’ll need help filling them up and attaching them to the harness! I can get down on my own by shooting the balloons, and I can also get a parachute, but. I need someone to watch so I don’t get lost and someone who can help me to the ground!! Pleeeeasse??? Come on, no risk no glory!” Everyone gets. Frankly annoyed and pissed off at Randall because. He’s being ridiculous. There’s no way he could actually do something like that.
One day Hershel finally gives in, “Fine!!! I’ll help you with your ridiculous cloud fantasy!!!” And so Randall gets him up at. 5 in the morning (still dark out) and drags hershy out to do this. And so they take a few hours blowing up these balloons. And the sun is rising when Randall takes off. And they actually get Randall up in the air and he starts flying!!! Hershel actually gets excited by that and is like, “!!!!RANDALL YOURE FLYING OH MY GOODNESS!!!” But then. The winds get stronger. And. They both start panicking. As Randall starts blowing away, and. He gets out of hershels sight.
Hershel panics and tells everyone what happened, and they send for a search party! But Randall never gets found. He gets assumed dead and they make a grave for him. Everyone blames hershel for the loss l ll l_, including himself. And randall is never seen again…. until the events of the masked gentleman in miracle mask.
